About the organisation

The United Nations specialized agency for maritime safety, security and prevention of pollution from ships. IMO administers SOLAS and MARPOL and codes such as IMDG (dangerous goods) and IMSBC (solid bulk cargoes).

For shippers, IMO codes determine how cargo is declared, packed, labelled and stowed – mistakes can lead to cargo being refused.
