About this field

The foundation field: terminology, quantities and units, graphical symbols, technical drawings and shared code lists such as country, currency and language codes and date/time formats. Mostly developed by ISO and UN/CEFACT.

For exporters and importers this is the common language of trade documents, ERP/EDI systems, labels and drawings – using the right codes reduces errors in customs declarations, payments and data exchange with partners.
